Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, who was honoured at the recent Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala for his outstanding displays over the past year, set out what the club hopes to achieve for the remainder of the season. The piece was published on 05/02/2026 and written by Swapnil Bhopa kar.

As the campaign enters a critical phase, Yamal stressed that the team’s top-quality players must take responsibility and step up to deliver. He said he is enjoying the moment in his career and is aiming for further progress and successes.

Although Barcelona currently sit at the top of the La Liga table, Yamal acknowledged the title race is far from decided. He highlighted the reality that the league is the most demanding competition because of its length, so nothing is settled until the final matchday. Drawing on last season’s experience, he insisted the team must fight until the end, secure points and avoid defeats since every game matters.

Yamal also addressed Barcelona’s Champions League ambitions. After the painful extra-time loss to Inter in last season’s semi-final, Europe remains a major objective for the club. He argued that standings or reputation mean little by themselves — what counts are results, respecting opponents and going all out to try to win each tie.

On the subject of his personal numbers, Yamal made it clear that scoring goals is not his primary concern. He explained that his game is not defined by goals: sometimes he plays well without finding the net, and sometimes he scores but is not fully satisfied with his overall performance. Above all, he wants to play well for the team so they can win and maintain that standard.

Finally, regarding individual honours, having finished second in the 2025 Ballon d'Or, Yamal said such awards are not something he dwells on. He pointed out that awards depend on what you win, how you play and who votes, so he prefers to focus on enjoying his football and winning with Barcelona and the national team.
