A recent piece from The Touchline reports that Barcelona have opened communication with Marcus Rashford’s representatives to discuss the forward’s future. The club sees him as a potential marquee addition, but only if the financial terms are acceptable.

Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints mean they must be cautious, and any major signing has to fit within the existing wage structure. Inside the club there is a growing view that Rashford would be a luxury reinforcement unless he agrees to reduce his current salary.

A final decision is expected toward the end of the season, when Barca will have a clearer picture of their budget. Complicating matters, developments in England have added uncertainty: interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly told Rashford he would like him back after his loan, but the player is said to be reluctant to return to Old Trafford.

Rashford reportedly wants to stay in Barcelona and has indicated to the club his desire to remain at Spotify Camp Nou. Should Barca pursue a permanent deal they could either trigger the €30 million buy clause or negotiate a lower transfer fee.

Crucially, the player is said to be open to lowering his wage demands, a willingness that could be decisive given Barcelona’s strict financial limits. Based on his current form, the club is inclined to keep him, but any move will be taken with maximum caution and likely only settled near the season’s end.

If a stay in Barcelona does not materialise, English reports claim Rashford would prefer to join another club rather than return to Manchester United, citing a lack of belief in United’s sporting project as the main reason.
